"Fair Trade natural jams, marmalades, honeys, sauces, exotic atchars and honeys"
Eswatini Kitchen is a Fair Trade producer of natural jams, marmalades, honeys, sauces, exotic atchars and chutneys.
It was established in 1991, with the objective of creating employment for disadvantaged women and providing a market for small local farmers and rural families who harvested wild fruit. It would then use the profits generated to fund Manzini Youth Care’s social programmes. By 1998 15 women were employed and the introduction of HACCP standards enabled the project to compete internationally responding to international food industry and export requirements. Today Eswatini Kitchen provides a fair and sustainable income for over 300 people in Swaziland, exports to 15 international destinations and by devoting all of its proceeds to the Manzini Youth Care initiatives, supports over 2000 marginalized children and young people in the country.
Some interesting numbers on our 50 employees today: 90% of them are women, 96% are the sole income providers in their homes, 45% are single mothers. We care for our employees and their 150 children.
Besides providing fair wages for its staff, Eswatini Kitchen facilitates regular training in food safety and managerial-related skills, and organizes workshops on health and HIV issues.
