"Craft of traditional agriculture and fine art from Botswana"
Botswanacraft was set up by the Botswana Development Corporation in 1970 in order to develop Botswana’s rural based handicraft industry.
Becoming privately owned in 1993 the company has developed to become a major retailer and exporter of handicraft from Botswana.
The company directly employs over 40 citizens, indirectly creates work for numerous rural craft producers throughout the country and compliments locally made products by importing handicrafts from the southern region of Africa and other developing countries.
Botswanacraft is dedicated towards improving the quality of life for rural Botswana and the management and utilisation of natural resources.
While Botswana is potentially a relatively wealthy country, much of its population remains rural and poor without many opportunities for employment.
Due to Botswana’s harsh environment and natural resources, a vast traditional craft industry has emerged and today this industry remains a much needed source of cash income for many of the citizens of rural Botswana.
